Zanardi, Hernandez win at Brno

Alex Zanardi and Sergio Hernandez secured a win apiece at Brno as the BMW Team Italy-Spain outfit enjoyed a double victory in the Czech Republic.

Zanardi stormed to victory in race after August Farfus wiped out a number of front-runners at the first corner, with the Italian continuing his strong run of form at the Czech venue following a double podium in 2008.

Team-mate Hernandez then took his maiden WTCC victory in race two, taking the lead early on and controlling things from the front to open his victory account.

The entry list for the final round of the World Touring Car Championship at Macau will be bolstered by an additional pair of BMWs from two different teams.

Engstler Motorsport, who already have two cars entered for the race, will add a third BMW for Hong Kong driver David Louie.

World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx gave a demonstration in how not to do it at Goodwood after the BMW Team UK driver attended the BMW PGA Championship preview event at the Sussex venue.

Priaulx gave leading golfer Colin Montgomerie an exhilarating passenger ride around the Goodwood Race Circuit before Montgomerie tested his own driving skills in a golf buggy race.

However, the race ended with a collision - something Priaulx will be keen to avoid when the season gets underway in Brazil...

Russian Bears opt for Lada.

Russian Bears Motorsport will compete in the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2008.

The Russian outfit will run two Lada 110 2.0 cars from the third race meeting of the season that will take place in Valencia on May 18. The procedure to homologate the car is currently underway.

Alain Menu will start the first World Touring Car race of the weekend at Estoril from last position after he failed technical scrutineering following qualifying.

The Swiss driver had qualified in third place, but was stripped of his times when it was discovered his on-board fire extinguisher was empty.

As a result, he will be forced to start last, alongside James Thompson, meaning JOrdi Gene will start third, ahead of Rob Huff in fourth, Andy Priaulx in fifth and Augusto Farfus in sixth.

Golden Motors set for WTCC return.

The Golden Motors team will make a return to the World Touring Car Championship from the next round of the season at Oschersleben later this month.

The Honda team took part in the events at Valencia and Brno and will now make its third outing of the season in Germany with Andrey Smetsky and Alexander Lvov once again at the wheel of its two cars.

Following the Oschersleben race meeting, the pair will also take part in the two following events at Imola and Monza which will bring the European part of the WTCC campaign to a close.

WTCC confirms bio-fuel plans.

The World Touring Car Championship has announced that it will introduce second generation biofuel into the series for 2009.

The series already has cars running on diesel thanks to the entry from the works SEAT team, while the bio-ethanol fuelled Volvo C30 will join the grid for the first time this weekend at Brands Hatch.

Now, the series will implement the introduction of second generation biofuels from next year in an effort to improve its environmental standing.

FIA rejects Macanese entries.

The FIA Touring Car Bureau had rejected the entry lodged by the RPM Racing Team for the 2008 World Touring Car Championship season finale in Macau.

The Macau-based outfit had intended to run two cars in the event around the challenging street circuit, with Lei Kit Meng at the wheel of a Toyota Altezza and Jo Rosa-Merszei driving a Honda Civic Type-R.

However, neither car has been homologated by the FIA and as such, the two cars will not be permitted to take part in the race weekend.

Marrakech circuit revealed.

The first images of the circuit that will play host to a Moroccan round of the World Touring Car Championship have been revealed.

The non-permanent street circuit in Marrakech is due to play host to the third round of the 2009 season, although the circuit itself is still subject to approval from the FIA.

Larini gives Lacetti final win.

Chevrolet's Nicola Larini has won the Yokohama World Touring Car Show in Bologna for the second year running.

The event, which sees six touring car drivers go head-to-head in a series of heats, saw the Italian come out on top in what will be his final outing in the Lacetti before it is replaced by the Cruze for 2009.

On his way to victory Larini beat BMW pair Jorg Muller and Duncan Huisman, SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini and Oscar Nogues, and Honda's Tomas Engstrom.

After a number of years of improving success with the Lacetti, Chevrolet will introduce the new Cruze into the World Touring Car Championship in 2009.

The new car has already undergone extensive testing over the winter, with Rob Huff, Alain Menu and Nicola Larini now hoping to challenge for the title this season.

British outfit plots Lexus entry.

British outfit LGT Engineering has announced plans to enter a brace of diesel powered Lexus IS220d cars in the World Touring Car Championship.

The outfit, formed in February this year by Tim Blake and George Ryton intends to run two cars in the Yokohama Independents Trophy later this season before embarking on a full campaign next season with the Liverpool-based squad aiming to follow the lead of SEAT in using alternative fuels to campaign its machines.

Tarquini, Farfus secure victory apiece

Gabriele Tarquini and August Farfus took a win apiece as the World Touring Car Championship made its second trip to the streets of Porto for an event that also features the series' 100th race.

Front-wheel drive cars offered weight break.

SEAT, Alfa Romeo and Chevrolet will gain a weight break for the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Zandvoort after the FIA stepped in to counter criticism levelled at them following BMW's domination of the first round.

The FIA came under criticism from SEAT in particular after reigning champions BMW were given a controversial 15kg weight reduction to negate the advantage they had gained from having two standing starts.
