Andrew Irwin will miss the 2018 World Supersport season opener for CIA Landlords Insurnance Honda with injury after fracturing the third metacarpal bone in his left hand in a crash on the opening day of testing at Phillip Island.

The Ulster rider is currently awaiting surgery at St Vincent’s hospital in Melbourne and is already focusing on a comeback at the second round in Thailand next month. Irwin had been preparing for his World Supersport debut having graduated from the British Supersport series over the winter.
