Trelawny stage the final speedway meeting at the Clay Country Moto Parc this Tuesday evening when they meet Newport in a Premier League match (7.30pm). It is the final home meeting of the season and the last before the JAG Tigers have to vacate their unique track in the Cornish clay pits.

Victory over Newport would see Trelawny remain on course for a top six place in the final league table. They went down by six points a Newport last month and have their eye on the aggregate bonus point.

Potential Long Eaton owners to pour over plans

The promotional duo behind plans to bring Long Eaton speedway back from the dead - Nigel Wordsworth and John Bailey have been invited by the stadium site's potential new owners to look over amended plans.

Speaking at the recent Save the Stadium meeting, organiser Martin North indictaed that although progress continues to be made there are still some slight complications but nothing that is expected to be a show-stopper.

Aces axe Larsen.

Belle Vue have parted company with Californian Josh Larsen and are looking for a replacement. Larsen is back in his home country and Aces boss John Perrin is angry about speculation that he still owes the rider money.

Perrin said: "Larsen has had everything he is entitled to. He decided to go home. I've heard so much rubbish about this from people who are nothing more than anoraks."

Larsen, absent from the UK scene for a number of seasons, was handed a chance to re-establish a once promising career by the Aces arriving from the States only last month.

Pickering: The matter is now closed.

Paul Pickering has received a suspended ?1000 fine and eight meeting ban after riding down the Stoke track the wrong way in protest at an unsatisfactory start. Speedway Control Board officer Graham Reeve decided not to refer the matter to a disciplinary tribunal.

No work permit for Larsen.

Belle Vue have been rocked by the Department of Employment refusing them a work permit for Josh Larsen.

The American was set to return to British Speedway after a four year absence but that is now on hold.

A spokesman said: "We will be appealing the decision and have the backing of Chris Van Straaten. He is still a rider of International standing and we are hopeful."

Ref Smith stars on a bike.

Rod Smith proved to be the cream of the sport's officials - on a motorcycle - in the charity Ref's Track Day staged at Sittingbourne on Saturday. Smith was only beaten once during the event which saw 12 speedway referees receive training during the day and then get the chance to put into
practice what they had learnt.

Stoke have been hit by the news that Robbie Kessler has suffered a broken arm during a Swedish League meeting. Hull skipper Garry Stead has already been booked as a guest replacement for the meeting with Rye House at Loomer Road on Saturday.

The incident happened in heat one at Mariestad. Polish rider Tomasz Piszcz lost control and hit the fence but his bike bounced back into the track and hit the unlucky Kessler.

Tatum doubtful for Friday.

Arena Essex are sweating on the fitness of Kelvin Tatum for their Premier League meeting with Exeter at Purfleet on Friday.

Tatum is currently nursing a wrist injury and would have missed the postponed trip to the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.

He said: "It's been causing me some pain and we'll just have to see how it settles down before Friday and then make a decision."

Arena-Essex Speedway star Kelvin Tatum today received his MBE from Her Majesty the Queen, at Buckingham Palace, London [pictured].

The Hammers captain was accompanied by his wife Debbie, their daughter Emma and his sister Jenny for the special occasion - in recognition of his services to Speedway.

Tatum's award is a great personal achievement and has been welcomed within the Speedway community.

The Sussex based rider was born in Epsom, Surrey in 1964, and has had a dazzling career so far, that includes being:

Kelvin Tatum and Oliver Allen will come face-to-face again at Swindon for a second time on September 26.

They have both been named in the Championship of Great Britain Semi-final at the Abbey Stadium where just four places are available for the final at Coventry next month.

The pair clashed in front of the Sky Sports cameras when Swindon faced Arena Essex in the Premier League earlier in the summer.

Herne pleased with first Australian final.

The Hammers young Aussie, Lee Herne, competed in his first National Final last weekend when he was up against 15 other riders in the Australian Final.

Herne managed to score six points from his five races, which put him into joint ninth place overall. He was satisfied with his performance and reportedly found it a great experience. Indeed, to finish with six points in such prestigious company at his first attempt was a fine achievement.

Tacey signs for Hull.

Former Elite League rider Shaun Tacey has been named as Hull's latest capture.

Tacey, who spent last season with Arena Essex, commented: "Hull offered me a deal, they were keen to sign me, whereas Arena seemed to be dragging their heels somewhat, although they had said they wanted me to stay."

Meanwhile Vikings bosses Nigel Wordsworth and John Bailey are confident of making another signing by the weekend and thus complete their 2003 line-up.

They are close to finalising terms with a reserve rider who impressed during the club's trial session at Buxton last weekend.

Australian, Lee Herne, has become the fifth rider to sign for the Kent Sweepers sponsored Arena-Essex Hammers Speedway team for the 2002 season.

Herne, who spent part of last season riding for the Essex based team, is at present back home in his native Australia was delighted to have received a telephone call from Arena-Essex Promoter Colin Brine. He gave his immediate positive response when offered a place in the team and is very enthusiastic over his return to the Club he finished the 2001 season with.

Thousands of speedway fans from all over Britain will be making the pilgrimage to High Beech this coming weekend for the annual dirt-track birthday party sponsored by Vintage Speedway Magazine.

The event, commemorating the birth of speedway racing in Britain on a cinder track behind the King's Oak Hotel on Sunday, February 19, 1928, is FREE and attracts speedway stars old and new, giving fans the chance to chat with their heroes.

Attractions include historic speedway machinery, memorabilia, a collectors' fair and vintage speedway films.

Dugard retirement shocker.

In something of a shock announcement immediately following his third place in the British Final on Saturday night, Martin Dugard made it known that this is to be his last season in speedway and he will hang up his Kevlar's at the end of the current campaign.

Dugard has been of England's most successful and consistent riders over the last dozen years, a regular on the international scene and also winner of the British Grand Prix last year.

Grand Prix stars Nicki Pedersen and Andy Smith have signed up for the Telford indoor ice speedway meeting on 17th February.

The Telford Ice International, is speedway's longest-running indoor meeting and consists of two separate meetings the same day - afternoon and evening.

The afternoon meeting, starting at 3pm, is a 13-heat international match between England and the Rest of the World with the Speedway Star International Best Pairs Knock Out as a bonus.

Lobb and Marsh back to Exeter.

Roger Lobb is on his way back to Exeter - after missing 18-months of action through suspension.

Lobb has agreed terms with Falcons promoter Colin Hill to return to the club for their last season at the County Ground.

Lobb was banned for failing a drugs test.

Also rejoining the club is popular reserve Krister Marsh who had a successful spell with the Falcons last season.
